MetaWSS Asset License (Full text)

The aim of this license is to go beyond the conflict of interests around copyright protection and circumvention. The license aims to protect everyone's interests:

• Publishers of digital media assets and related metadata by insisting other creators refer to the officially published content rather than redistributing them. This means that by them becoming the primary source for end users receiving the online version of their works, they gain a direct channel to the end user and much more accurate metrics on the usage of their product
• Secondary creators are also protected because they gain surety that they can include the publisher's works within their own works so long as they do so via referring to a metadata proxy that tells the end user's software where to find the latest version of the file appropriate to the end user's device or requirements; and they can also redistribute an adaption produced in another medium from the original asset files (E.g. It's ok to put a video on YouTube that was recorded in a virtual world that contains content licensed by other publishers under this license).
• End users benefit from knowing that the content they are getting is both legal and as up-to-date as possible. They gain both of these qualities without forgoing convenience or necessarily suffering a DRM limitation just to believe they're legally protected.
