Steve: Stabbing update

June 29, 2008

Just spoke with Steve Eagle. He’s doing well considering how lucky he is to be alive.

If he hadn’t been only about 3 blocks from a hospital he would have most likely died from loss of blood. Also the hospital had a helicopter available to take him to emergency surgery at a top hosipital in Canada where they were able to stabilize him. He lost his spleen and half his pancreas. The knife passed through nearly every organ in his chest apart from his right lung, his heart and his intestines.

He is now able to take in liquids and he no longer needs oxygen tubes and fluid drainage from his lungs. So he’s recovering well. Thankfully he was very fit and healthy when this happened.

Hi there everyone - well things continue to go pretty well… Im still in hospital recovering but Im making good progress and should be out within the next few days.

All of my 30 odd staples have been removed and the drain for my liver is also gone. I still have a drain in for my pancreas but this should be out shortly Im told.

The community response in Banff has been quite amazing with people offering donations and various other means of support.

We are planning an auction of some of my photography to help cover the cost of care when I leave the hospital and will have a party on the same night to celebrate my return to Banff and to thank all of the fantastic people who ensured my care was swift and professional.

All in all this has been quite the experience… certainly something that will stay with me for a long time… on many levels…

Cheers,
Steve
