The VastPark philosophy

VastPark aims to be a lightweight 3D spatial and event metadata platform. It is suitable for visualizing products, data and multiple user avatars interacting. Therefore it is suitable for creating virtual worlds, 3D Web scenes, games and even 2D interactive multimedia experiences.

VastPark's Ten Commandments:

1. Open Platform

Open commercial eco-system, Open specifications, Open source code. Free to use and extend via plugins, widgets and other content. Developers: we're offering lots of open source code to help you help us. Innovators and entrepreneurs: go for it.

2. Less is More

Simple core platform that is highly extensible.

3. Just works

We want to create a smoother, simple experience with a low learning curve which enables users to do what they want including creating their own virtual environments and to switch between multiple computers without syncing issues. We aim to strike a balance between hiding complexities from general users and ensuring the user experience is configurable by power-users and institutional administrators.

4. Small is smarter

Creators can create and update their own content, "interactive widgets" and plugins that they can permit (and directly sell to) other people to use as building blocks to create their own virtual worlds and applications.

5. More control

Life is increasingly complex and lacks flexibility where it's needed. As a user you want to control who you see and who sees you. Just like Facebook, you don't want everyone to see you. The concept of "shared realities" is already redundant. What users need are "Shareable Realities". We will continue to innovate, simplify and empower user and communities to customize their experience.

6. Really own your own

Why should you have to trust anyone with your private data: you should be able to serve it from your servers or directly from your own computer. You should also be able to sell your content and creativity however you like: directly, through 3rd parties and conveniently via the VastPark platform. And you should be able to export any of your data out of the system as well as delete your personal information off any VastPark-owned services.

7. Build to last

Enable users to create content that will continue to work years from now. Build a strong core community and empower the community to build their businesses and institutional virtual intranets and event archives upon the platform.

8. Immersive Web

This is a distributed technology that works from open specifications like the Web and we're working on ensuring it integrates with the current Web. Other developers can release their own software that support our open specifications. We aim to support open standards as they emerge.

9. Grow 1000 businesses

VastPark supports the developer community making money through the platform by supporting premium plugins, optional 3rd party and 1st party services that help people achieve their goals and building unparallelled niche industry solutions.

10. Compatibility

We aim to maintain a compatible framework across users of the platform. VastPark is high level framework that is able to embrace other virtual world platforms (though this is yet to be demonstrated) so where possible we wish to become compatible with other platforms by being capable of supporting rendering and serving their virtual world scenes and enabling others to render VastPark scenes described in our IMML and VastScript formats.
